Proof DEXILANT works for acid reflux disease
When you eat, millions of tiny pumps in your stomach produce acid to help digest your food. But when the valve between your stomach and esophagus (called the lower esophageal sphincter or LES) does not work properly, stomach acid can flow repeatedly back into your esophagus. This can cause heartburn. Heartburn two or more days a week, despite treatment and diet changes, could be acid reflux disease (ARD).

DEXILANT works by turning off many of the millions of tiny pumps in your stomach that produce acid. Clinical studies have shown that DEXILANT provides up to 24 hours of relief from heartburn due to acid reflux disease. Studies also showed DEXILANT heals damage (erosions) to the esophagus and keeps it from coming back. Individual results may vary.
To learn more about ARD, see About Acid Reflux Disease.
How DEXILANT is different
DEXILANT is the first and only acid reflux disease treatment that gives you two releases of medicine in one pill. The key to the second release is Dual Delayed Release formulation (DDR). DDR combines two different types of granules in one pill. So like shift workers in a factory, DEXILANT releases one shift of medicine within an hour of taking your pill. Then, around 4–5 hours later, DEXILANT releases a second shift of medicine.
Take DEXILANT with or without food
Unlike some medicines, which should be taken on an empty stomach, you can take DEXILANT with or without food. Capsules should be swallowed whole. If you have trouble swallowing DEXILANT capsules whole, you can open the capsules and sprinkle the contents on a tablespoon of applesauce. Be sure to swallow the applesauce mixture right away. Do not chew the mixture and do not store it for later use. As with other medications, be sure to take DEXILANT exactly as it was prescribed and for the full length of time.
