  • Have liver problems
  • Have any other medical conditions

Tell your doctor about all your medicines, including any prescription and any nonprescription medicines, herbal remedies, and vitamins.

DEXILANT and certain other medicines can affect each other. Before taking DEXILANT, tell your doctor if you are taking ampicillin, atazanavir, digoxin, iron, ketoconazole, tacrolimus, or warfarin. If you are taking DEXILANT with warfarin, you may need to be monitored because serious risks could occur.

How to take DEXILANT

Both DEXILANT doses (30 mg and 60 mg) are available in capsule form. Talk to your doctor about which option is right for you.

You should take DEXILANT exactly as it was prescribed and for the full length of time. While your individual results may vary, DEXILANT not only relieves heartburn related to acid reflux disease, but it also can help heal damage to the esophagus known as erosive esophagitis. And for many people, continuing treatment with DEXILANT, if prescribed, can even stop the damage from coming back. For this reason, it's important to take medicine as directed by your doctor even if you don't feel the symptoms. You may feel better before you run out of capsules.

Unlike some medicines, which should be taken on an empty stomach, you can take DEXILANT with or without food. Capsules should be swallowed whole. If you have trouble swallowing DEXILANT capsules whole, you can open the capsules and sprinkle the contents on a tablespoon of applesauce. Be sure to swallow the applesauce mixture right away. Do not chew the mixture and do not store it for later use. As with other medications, be sure to take DEXILANT exactly as it was prescribed and for the full length of time.
